Vineyard Power continues to lead the charge in energy efficiency initiatives locally, supporting Cape Light Compact’s implementation of Mass Save programs and driving significant increases in home energy assessments on-island. Their success, attributed to outreach through local hubs like libraries and senior centers, has helped increase assessments from 500 per year since 2018 to nearly 900 in 2024. The organization also offers no-cost coaching services, assisting residents in the energy transition through building decarbonization, solar adoption, and electric vehicle integration.
Additionally, Vineyard Power’s work to subsidize low-income households and provide grants to government entities, non-profits, and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) for solar and battery storage projects helps reduce energy costs, decrease carbon footprints, and increase resilience. Through continued community engagement and educational programs, Vineyard Power is committed to helping the island move toward a more sustainable, energy-efficient future.
For Islanders, signing up for home energy assessments, transitioning from fossil fuels to efficient all-electric building mechanical systems, and adopting sustainable behaviors are top actions to contribute to the overall Climate Action Plan.
This work directly supports Climate Action Plan (CAP) Energy Transformation Goal #1: Reduce fossil fuel use on the Island from the 2018 baseline, 50% by 2030 and 100% by 2040 (adopted by all 6 towns on Martha’s Vineyard and the MVC Commissioners); Goal #2: Increase the percentage of our electricity use that is renewable and generated regionally (within New England); and Goal #3: Ensure that our energy supply is both adequate and resilient in response to the impacts of climate change.
